The Yasur volcano, in the south-east of Tanna island in Vanuatu, has been active for hundreds of years.
Its activity includes regular small and occasional large explosions.
Yasur, which is about 360 metres above sea level and not far from the coast, has an almost circular summit crater that can be easily accessed, making it a major tourist attraction.
The eruptions have formed a large lava plain around the base of the volcano.
